Is Navigator compatible with MirrorLink ?

Hello,
First I warmly congratulate the developpers of Navigator. This app greatly assisted me along the 3000km that I drove in Australia last July.

I plan to buy a new small car (Peugeot 108 or Citroen C1 or Toyota Aygo) with the function MirrorLink (http://www.mirrorlink.com/) that can duplicate the screen of my smartphone to the touch screen of the car, but only the apps that are compatible with MirrorLink can run. More and more cars are compatible with it now. Google Maps can run but without mobile data, it is useless.

Any information about MirrorLink and its CCC with Navigator ?

Test of Windows 8.1 MapFactor Navigator

Hello,
you can test a new beta Windows 8.1 / Windows Phone 8.1 version of MapFactor Navigator here:
https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/mapfactor-gps-navigation/9nblggh3666j (5 MB)

You can try it on a phone, tablet, or PC with Windows 8.1 or Windows 10. Menu screens were redesigned for larger displays. The user interface of the map is also slightly different from the Android or WinCE version. This version contains only free OSM maps (not TomTom maps) and uses the older software renderer (not the new GLES).

Please, let us know if you find any problems. We can also discuss the app redesign here :)

Speed of pedestrians in 0,1 km/h steps?

$

Hi,

it looks like the speed of any vehicle including pedestrians can be entered with a precision of 0,1 km/h.
But for some reason the speed is always cropped down to integer precision ... Guess why I'm asking ... Not for cars.
When I'm walking in the mountains, I have a speed of 2,5 km/h which is far away from 2 and 3 for calculating the remaining time to go.
So, is it possible to store at 0,1 km/h precision, or in contrary - why not displaying integers?

Thanks
Dirk

Hi,

I'd like to copy the favorites.xml and some other files from an Android phone to a MS phone but I can't find those files on the latter?
Will the contents be compatible?

Thanks
Dirk

I am satisfied with your app, but i can not use SD card for storage of maps. I got the choice between phone and SD card (so, your app has recognized the SD card) but after choicing it, i got only message: SD card requested.

GPX files in Windows10?

Hello,

I am using MapFactor on both an Android Phone as well as a Windows10 Tablet.
At the Anfroid phone I can log *.GPX files.
Unfortunately, the Windows10 Tablet version of MapFactor seems to generate *.LOG files (which I cannot export to Garmins Mapsource / Basecmp).

Is there a way to get *.GPX files?

This will make tablet navigation so much more usefull :-)

Thanks.

routing through barrier

The android navigator application tried to make me drive my car through a barrier.
In osm the highway has a node with a "barrier=cycle_barrier" tag.
How does navigator handle barrier tags? Does it require additional tags?

Map Update Issue

I have both OSM and TomTom maps on my device and have selected TomTom maps as my preference.  However, whenever there are updates to the OSM maps, I get a notification (fair enough) which if I then click on and decline to update, I am told there are no maps and asked if I want to download them.  If I decline again, the app exits.  The only way to access the app is to accept at least one of the updates.  Not sure if this has been reported and fixed in the upcoming Android release but it is quite annoying.

Stop showing private gardens

Currently public gardens, private gardens and parks are all rendered with the same icon - a bench under a tree.  Private gardens should not be rendered because:
  • They are not typically of interest to most people
  • There can be large numbers of them in a small area, slowing down rendering
  • They can easily obscure actually relevant details.
Here is a typical screenshot from my Galaxy s4. This is not a bug in the data from OSM, as tagging residential gardens is both common and recommended in the wiki. Residential gardens should be tagged as access=private, so I would suggest using the preprocessor to exclude gardens tagged as private from the dataset.  Alternatively, a stricter option would be to only include gardens with access=yes or access=permissive.

POI searching works, but are not permanently shown on map

For some reason creating an own Poi category is not working as expected.
So, I have tested with a very simple .csv file with the following content:
Long,Lat,Name
4.6274300,51.8253100,Poi A
4.6469500,51.8139500,Poi B
4.6781800,51.8577100,Poi C
I made sure the coding of this file is UTF-8. Then I used digger version 12.1.5. to convert this file to a .mca file. No errors during this process. But when I copy the .mca file to the data map of PC Navigator 15 FREE (C:\ProgramData\Navigator\15.0\Data)  then the new Poi category is not shown on the map. And the new Poi category is not selectable in the menu\settings\map\select poi types.
But when I go to Find and Navigate and perform a search by Poi, then I am to select the Poi category Imports and then Testpoi. There the three poi’s are shown. And when selected, shown on the map. This is also the case when using the .mca file in the Android version of Navigator.

Can someone give me some advice? Thanks in advance.

Speed dependent distance for destination signs

$

Currenlty, destination signs are already shown appr. 2km ahead. This is great for highways, where the speed is appr 120 km/h/ 100km/h
For secondary roads, and even within city limits, this sdistance is way to far ahead. The destination signs are sometimes shoown when still several turns have to be made. This is confusing. Can the destination signs made dependent on road type or max speed on the road.
Without any scientfic backing, I would say that for 80 km/h roads, a nicer distance would be 400m, within city limits, 200m would suffice.

Hello,
I read in the app description here on Google Play that the app supports Truck Routing.
However, if I try to edit the data, I get the following error message:

How do I enable Truck mode??? Here in the product description it sends me to the only available Android URL again... I'm confused...

Thank you!

Navigator unusable because it doesn't find Ext. SD-Card any more

Hello,

I posted this in another thread already (http://forum.mapfactor.com/discussion/7065/map-update-issue#Item_9), but meanwhile I believe that this is a different problem. That's why I open a new thread now. Additionally I had to expand the description in the end because the problem continues after I thought I had fixed it.

The problem started after one of several map updates failed, but this might or might not be the cause of the problem.
I have only OSM maps installed. My phone is a Samsung XCover 2 with Android 4.1.2
  1. Notification of updates -> chose to download them.
  2. During
the last of several updates something went wrong, app said connection
was interrupted. (Okay, that may happen.) Chose to make the last update
some other time and closed the app.
  3. Next morning started the
app. First error message something like "No access to external SD card.
Maybe due to system update to Android 4.4?" and as I dismissed it
second message: "No maps installed. Download?"
  4. I choose not to
download, because I know they are on the device. I want to go to
settings and check if the app remembers correctly that they were stored
on the SD card. (Which is by the way perfectly accessible and I'm still
running 4.1.2.) App exits, no way to interact.
  5. Restart app,
choose download, so that I can somehow enter the app. Barely space on
internal memory, luckily for Andorra + the mandatory earth.osm it is
    enough.
  6. Now I can go to settings. Strangely the folder where my
old installation including more than 1GB of data resides is identified
as "Internal Memory" and the one where navigator moved itself just now
as "External SD-Card 1". (I believe I realized this error before when I
had chosen the so-called internal memory after my first installation of
    the app.)
image(<- This is how I found the settings. I had chosen the opposite.)
    I
change the path back to so-called internal which is external really and
close the app. It says it deletes some invalid data and exits.
  7. After
restart it says for quite some time it verifies the integrity of data.
But after some minutes and a restart it seems to work.
  8. Verified that the app works correctly
  9. Start the app again later that day to use it for navigating -> initial problem. First it complains that the Ext. SD card is write protected, later on it doesn't find it any more.

Result: Can't use Navigator any more at all.

Are there different ways an SD card can be mounted? Can anything have changed that is a problem for Navigator but not for other apps? Everything else works as normal as far as I can tell.

Any help appreciated!

Joachim

American vs. UK idioms

$

Using version 1.0.0, I have my language choice set to "System Default", which in my case is US English. The app, however, uses UK idioms. For example, it told me to take the "slip road" and I have no idea what that was. It didn't take me long to figure out that the equivalent US term is "exit ramp", but it would be nice if there were a US English vocabulary.
