App crash with TTS on Acer Liquid Z3

I enable the TTS engine of my Acer Liquid Z3 (the integrated one by Google) and start a simulation.
Then, if I turn the screen (the phone itself), Mapfactor crashes with a black screen. If I use the "<" button of my phone and wait some seconds, Android tells me that the application is not responding.
Instead, when the application is crashing, if I turn the screen a second time, the system itself crashes: the icons in the notification area are no longer animated, nothing works, and I have to plug out the battery to reinitialize the phone.

By the way, if TTS engine is activated, Mapfactor also freezes some seconds when the application is started, before getting the main menu.

The issue is the same with versions 1.3.43 and 1.4.18. I also tried to change the language of the TTS voice and this changes nothing.
All these issues disappear if I switch back to the integrated voice.


Edit: I installed Ivona TTS: no bug. So it seems related to the Google TTS engine.

Change the starting point

Hi all,
I looked in the forum but I did not find the solution.

It seems that it is not possible to start from a point that is different from the current GPS position of the phone.

Even if I set another point to starting point, clicking on navigation I cannot change the starting point from the current GPS position.

Am I missing something?

synchronization of routes/poi/settings between devices

Hi there

I'm on a long lasting journey in the search for the ultimate navigation software-solution. Yesterday I've come across mapfactor and I really like it. Especially the possibility of being able to plan a route on a (larger) pc an then transfer it to a smartphone.

However the process of getting your "routing_points.xml" to your android-device is rather painstaking.

So I've come up with a partial solution:
1. make an empty folder on your PC (let's name it "mapfactor_sync")

2. sync "mapfactor_sync" with the android folder "android/data/com.mapfactor.navigator/files/" with the help of syncthing
This will copy (sync) the content from your android device to "mapfactor_sync".

3. When synchronization is complete, you can copy the file "routing_points.xml" from your computer (something like "c:\users\"user"\roaming\Application Data\Navigator\16\") to "mapfactor_sync" and replace if it's already existing.
From there, syncthing will take over and sync/copy the new route to the android device.

4. the route created on the pc is now on your android device.

The very interesting part is, that syncthing works both ways, so you should be able to get a route created on your android device to your pc by reversing step 3.

The solution works only partially for multiple reasons:
1. you have to copy files manually
2. so far I've found no way to also sync settings (vehicle_profiles.xml and maybe others?).
3. syncthing will sync all the subfolders, of which one contains all the maps. This makes it waste a lot of harddisk space on your PC and of course makes synchronization potentially slow.

Therefore I'd like to make a feature request to adress these points:
1. make as much of the settings (.xml-files) compatible within the different platforms (if they are not already).
2. store them in a separate folder where only settings, favourites, routes... are being stored. These would be the folders that could be synchronized with syncthing.

The neat thing about all this is, that it would work p2p, even if you had no internet but could connect the two devices over WLAN, and even with an ad-hoc setup this should work.

Is there a chance, that this could be implemented?

Route deletion not working

Have installed Navigator 5 on my Windows 7 laptop. With no instructions it has taken me some time to work out how to use it.

Am using oSM maps but find I cannot delete an unwanted route. It deletes from the route list in the menu system but does not delete on the map. Even restarting to app does not get rid of the route on the map. I have created a route using waypoints and I get double loops both going the wrong way. It appears to be ignoring a particular stretch of road. Don't know why. As I say I cannot get rid of the route from the map.

I have Navigator FREE on my smartphone and love it. I have purchased a car dvd with gps which requires the program and maps to be on the SD card. Google play store says I have already installed Navigator! how do I download another copy and get all the required files on SD. Any help appreciated

Bug? "Search the middle"-sign doesn`t go away after searching something along the route

Hello,
I don`t know, if this is bug, or what I could do to eliminate it.

When I have a route, then search something along the route and mark all results and let them show on map:
They are shown as orange signs. But then there is also another orange sign "searching the middle". Okay, I don`t mind.
But that "searching the middle"-sign doesn`t go away, even while driving / navigating. And that`s really bad, it confuses me a lot. And often it even overlays my results of that search along the route.

Hi,  I have been using Navigator Free for years now, and have used it on 3 continents and around 16 countries with openstreetmap data.  Superb.

In the interests of keeping the superb free app I have a couple of "in app" purchase ideas you may like. (I have just bought the alternate routes)

1. "Road ahead closed" emergency button.
You can disable links, but its a bit of a fag, especially when a road is closed for 2 or more or unknown junctions.  Its also a bit useless as the system just tries to re-route you to the next junction when a sideways step is needed as the obvious alternate routes are similarly blocked.  Thus I suggest an emergency button on the navigation and overview map screens which produces an input form with two options:
a) Current road closed for [    ] miles. (Enter miles)
OR
b) Avoid current road completely.
If (a) selected the system can either run you parellel until clear and then return you to route, or just take you on a completely different route if quicker (systems choice).
If (b) the system will select the different route straight away.  (b) is usefull if you have some inkling as to where you are and that there are potential altrnatives.  You can just say "dump and run" onto the nearest alternative.

Alternate routes often jam up as well as everyone else has the same idea, so the ability to hit the button a few times would be essential.  e.g. when the M5 seizes up north of Bristol the A38 which runs parallel also seizes up.

2. Slooow traffic re-route.
With reportedly over 10million installs you should have enough users to monitor traffic speeds on roads.  Users with a mobile data connection can upload live speed, road and direction data (say every 5 mins - minified file).  Users without a live data link (like me) can upload a summary averages file when a data link becomes available. Say averages for journey every 5 minutes with time of day.  If it was me I would make this a condition of the free version that you share routing averages at the end of the trip.

The system then downloads traffic information and speeds for the route ahead and re-routes accordingly.  Those with a live data link get in journey re-routing.  Those without get average speed updates when link available (i.e. at Costa coffee :-)

You then charge for access to the live data as follows:
£1 for 2 weeks
£2 for one month
£6 for six month
£9 for 12 months

I would happily cough up £1 at the start of my holiday, I would even buy some live mobile data if I thought it would help navigate around Holiday traffic nightmares!  I used to travel commercially, and I would have been happy to subscribe annually in those days.

Subscriptions are a good regular source of income worth considering.

V2.2.37 bugs - Hotel POI and simulated route

In using the above version, I have found two apparent bugs.
  1. Checking the "Hotel and Motel" in either the "Travel and Accommodation" or "Tourism and Religion" POI type settings does not work.  The box is checked, but when going to the map, no hotel icons are displayed.  When going back to the setting menu, the selection is seen to be unchecked.  So it seems the selection is being automatically unchecked in the background.
  2. The app freezes when using the "Simulate route" feature.  Tried simulating a simple route with a single Departure and Destination.  Route is in Switzerland down a single road.  Actual device GPS location is in USA.  "Calculating route" appears, then app freezes.  Must use app manager to stop app.  Simulated route works OK if route is near actual GPS location.

Hola, hace tiempo compre un mapa de méxico para mi celular, ese celular se quebró, ahora tengo un celular nuevo, pero al instalar mapfactor, y no aparece la compra del mapa, tengo que comprarlo nuevamente?, me parece una idea muy descabellada, comprar un mapa cada vez que cambie de dispositivo, saludos.

Hallo from Greece !!!, 

i am Anastasios Mimikakos (or my nickname "tassos photography")  , 

i have since some months "mapfactor " application and at the same time bought  the tomtom maps .. 

I Have some questions : 

1. i have bought my country's map (Greece) if i buy "Europe's" map does it improve sth inside my country or its only for those who travel abroad ? 

2. the application mapfactor , has lots of settings and advanced settings , is there any ebook explaining each setting even if it isnt for begginers in Greek  !! ? , if not .. at least in English 

3. is there any PAID version of the application ? ie to upgrade it to even better ? , or its remains same .. free application and paid maps ? 

4. if i find mistakes in maps , in which site or email should i attend ? to mapfactor's or tomtom's ?

Problems with downloading maps on WP 8.1

Hello Newsgroup,

yesterday I installed mapfactor on my Nokia Lumia 630 with WP 8.1.

But there is a problem with downloading maps from the Internet.

1.
Very often the dowload of a new map does not start.

2.
If it starts then there is a message at the end of downloading, that there is very offen a message, that there is not enough memory or that there is a problem with the Internet. But most times everything is okay, the map is installed and ready for use.

3.
In the moment there is a problem to download "Austria". The download starts and at 99.99% the aboves mentioned message pops up. The map is not installed. I tried it 3 times now.

Is there anybody who knows how to solve the problem?
